Point to Point
At 1.1 miles, the out-and-back Old Growth Trail hike is the shortest trail inside the Oregon Caves National Monument. The old Civilian Conservation Corps trail begins at a sign immediately behind the visitor center, with the first 0.3 mile overlapping with the Big Tree Trail. After a quick climb, the Old Growth Trail forks left and continues over a mountainside that traces marble outcrops, past old-growth forest and oak trees, and eventually descends to a paved forest road that is just a short jaunt from the Oregon Caves parking area. Hikers can descend back to the parking area or retrace their path back to the Big Tree Trail and visitor center. While the trail might be less spectacular than others within the park, it does make for a scenic route for visitors to return to the parking area.
