Description
The Clyde Lake Trail starts off from the Crystal Lake Trailhead along the Mirror Lake Highway. Not far from Washington Lake, this is a very popular place to start many hikes of varying lengths without having to get too deep into the vast mountain range. Clyde Lake Trail starts out heading west but soon turns north (with a marked sign) as it takes you along Cliff Lake. This hike is quintessential Uintas and offers views of rolling hills with tall pines and tons of small ponds, creeks, and lakes. You can get some great views of Notch Peak above Wall Lake as you near the end of the trail, and large patches of flowers pop up along the hike in the summer months. In the early summer this place is absolutely loaded with mosquitos and mayflies, so be prepared. You can bring your dogs off leash along with you, and dispersed camping is allowed when following the regulations of backpacking near lakes. There is not that much elevation gain, so this is a great trail for the family. Keep an eye out for moose, which are very common here, as well as hummingbirds, marmot and hawks. The trailhead has bathrooms, and there is ample parking with overflow lots.
