West Pinto Trail #212

The West Pinto Trail #212 is a 19-mile out-and-back trail in the eastern portion of the Superstition Wilderness within Tonto National Forest located west of Phoenix, Arizona. It traverses through the Superstition Mountains which are one of the most prominent and largest mountain ranges surrounding Phoenix and a popular destination for tourists and local outdoor enthusiasts.The trail begins at the Miles Trailhead and follows West Pinto Creek west across the Superstition Mountains towards Roger's Trough Trailhead. It features a gradual climb with some steep sections, especially near Iron Mountain, and an overall elevation gain of 3,857'. The east side of the trail may have rougher conditions than the west. Because this area is lower in elevation, it's vulnerable to flooding during monsoon season, leaving a washed out trail that's hard to follow. Fall, winter, or early spring are the best times to enjoy this area which is home to wildflowers, jagged peaks, and the iconic Saguaro Cactus, one of the most recognizable plants of the Sonoran Desert. MILES RANCH TRAILHEADAccess to this trailhead requires a high-clearance vehicle. It's not recommended for horse trailers. The trailhead is located northeast from the town of Superior, Arizona. From Superior, take the U.S. Highway 60 to Pinto Valley Mine Road 287 (east of the Pinto Creek Bridge). Follow this road approximately 6.5 miles to the turnoff for Miles Ranch Road 287A.
