Eel Lake Trail Hike

William M. Tugman State Park is a popular spot for camping and enjoying Eel Lake. The trail that follows the shore of Eel Lake is a wonderful and mostly flat route for hikers and bikers. Beginning at the south edge of the large grass area near the boat ramp, the Eel Lake Trail starts by crossing the outlet creek over a wooden bridge. The trail winds 3 miles along the shore of the lake, crosses several creeks and offers changing views of the lake and the surrounding wooded hills. Very popular with joggers or walkers and open to dogs on a leash, this trail does not have spectacular vistas, but it is a lovely example of old-growth coastal forest, and it offers many rewards for the observant hiker. Mushrooms and ferns abound in the moist environment. The trail does not go completely around the lake, so it is an out-and-back trail only.
