Sandhills Hiking Trail

The Sandhills Loop Trail is the most central, and most scenic, of the hiking paths inside Sesquicentennial State Park.The easy walking path begins at the parking area and circles the lake while meandering a bit through the forest. Though it tends to stay central to the park's main features. The route crosses mostly flat ground, with 35' of total elevation gain over the course of the 2 mile path. The path also crosses through a wetlands environment on a flat boardwalk.The path is a hardpacked gravel, and has been surfaced to allow for strollers to be able to follow it. Sections near the parking area are paved with plenty of benches. There are also benches located sporadically along the route, and the trail intersects with the Loop Trail at a covered picnic area, giving hikers the option to join the longer trail and add some distance to the walk if they choose.The final stretch of the passes by a small waterfall on Jackson Creek and overlaps with the short Jackson Creek Nature Trail. All park amenities, including water and drinks, are available in the park office and store, along with vending machines at the Boathouse.The trail is subject to all park rules and entrance fees.
