Point to Point
Before the closure, visitors could hike 425 feet (130m) into the Klauea Caldera through a rainforest that has had to re-establish itself many times due to ongoing volcanic activity. Now they must turn around at the junction with Byron Ledge Trail.
You may return by the same route or proceed to the Byron Ledge Trail. From there continue to the Klauea Iki Trail and on to Crater Rim Trail that will bring you back to Klauea Visitor Center.
Please note the Halemaumau Trail across the caldera floor is closed beyond stop 10 due to the active eruptive vent in Halemaumau Crater.
