Description
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park's Fonts Point is one of the most popular lookout points with expansive views of the Borrego Badlands. People stare out in awe at the expansive landscape, a rocky labyrinth of corrugated beige and clay colored hills. During sunrises and sunsets, the area is particularly stunning. You can reach Fonts Point in a variety of ways, but this route describes an 11.2-mile out-and-back that begins at the Villager Peak & Rabbit Peak Trailhead off of Borrego Salton Seaway (S22). If you're looking for a moderately rated hike from a trailhead that doesn't require a 4WD or high clearance vehicle to access, this is a great choice. Following a series of washes, the trail traverses a terrain that consists of both loose sand and packed dirt. From the trailhead, this route takes the follow trails:Thimble Wash Trail - Short Wash - Fonts Wash - Fonts PointWATERYou will need to carry and bring all of the water that you'll need. SEASONSAnza-Borrego Desert State Park is warm year round. In the summer months it is not unusual for temperatures to reach over 100 degrees. Winter is an ideal time for hiking in the park and the best months are November-April.BACKCOUNTRY CAMPINGBackcountry camping is allowed in designated areas of Anza-Borrego State Park.
