Description
Starting at the parking area at the top of Kenosha Pass, the Colorado Trail, heading towards Breckenridge, is one of Colorado's most popular high altitude trails. It is 12 miles, one way, to Georgia Pass, with the high point of this route at just over 12,000'.The trail itself is very smooth with not many rocks or roots, thus allowing for a great hiking experience. If hiking toward Georgia Pass, be ready for a gradual but steady climb on the way out. You'll be rewarded with panoramic views of South Park and the surrounding peaks so be sure to stop and take in the views! The first couple miles of the trail from Kenosha Pass head through groves of huge aspen trees which are beautiful in the spring and fall. After the aspen groves, you'll hike through pines and conifers and some open meadows that are filled with wildflowers in the spring and summer. There are a couple small creek crossings along the way some with makeshift log bridges, but nothing that will get your feet wet. Be sure to bring a lot of water and food as there is no access along the route. Some of the more exposed section of the trail can get windy and cold due to the elevation change so dress accordingly!
