The Hunting Hollow entrance is open 24 hours a day. If you're comfortable with night outings, then rxhing these ridges in a full moon is incredibly beautiful.
Path Type
Loop
From the Hunting Hollow entrance, hike along Gilroy Hot Springs Road to the Grizzly Gulch entrance. This is an excellent two mile warmup on a relatively flat road. Take Coit Road to Anza Trail and follow that to Jackson Trail. The climb up to Jackson Field is rewarded with increasingly expansive views. If you bring an appropriate water filter, then Elderberry Spring can be used to replenish water. Follow Jackson Road and keep going as it turns into Wasno Road. This is one of the most beautiful stretches of ridge that's a reasonable day trip in Coe. Follow Wasno Road until it ends at Wagon Road. Take Wagon Road until the intersection for Wilson Camp. Relax a bit at Wilson Camp and filter more water if needed. Follow Bowl Trail to Middle Steer Ridge Trail. Portions of Middle Steer Ridge Trail can be a bit steep. If that is of concern, then Lyman Willson Ridge Trail is a shorter alternative and ends at the same spot along Hunting Hollow Road as Middle Steer Ridge Trail. Once on Hunting Hollow Road, it's a short flat stretch to the parking lot.
