Willow Falls Trail

The Willow Falls Trail is a mile long trail that runs from the 300 Campground to the Willow Falls Hill Trail in Willow River State Park. Willow River State Park is located east of Hudson, Wisconsin. This trail provides an easy and scenic way for campers in the 300 Campground to reach Willow Falls.The trail head is located on the north side of the 300 Campground between sites 311 and 313. The trail is a wide crushed gravel path that takes hikers near the of Little Falls Lake and the Willow River. The trail begins with a gradual descent, losing about 40 feet in elevation. The remainder of the trail is quite level making it suitable for almost all abilities. It is not uncommon to see deer while hiking this trail; a variety of birds and wildflowers can also be spotted near the trail. After one mile the trail ends when it meets the Willow Falls Hill Trail. It is less than a quarter mile to the falls from here. Take a left to continue to the scenic Willow Falls.After viewing the falls, hikers can return the way they came or explore other trails in the park. To make a loop back to the 300 Campground, hikers can return via the Pioneer Trail.The trails in Willow River State Park are designated with different colors; the Willow Falls Trail is blue. The Willow Falls Trail is extremely easy to follow so hikers need not worry about looking the posts painted blue near the top.Dogs are allowed of the Willow Falls Trail but must be kept on a leash that is no longer than 8 feet in length. Since the Willow Falls Trail is located in a state park, a fee must be paid to enter the park. A day use or annual permit can be purchased at the park office.
