Description
Since 1971, the Rideau Trail Association has established, maintained and encouraged low-impact, self-propelled use of the Rideau Trail, a 387 km network of interconnected trails between the City of Kingston and the City of Ottawa located in the general area of the Rideau Canal and its tributary waters. This trail continues the Rideau Trail (RT) from the Rideau Trail: Kingston Segment (aka Waterfront Pathway). From the parking area the RT goes N by a hedge next to the Cataraqui Golf Course. After 800 m it crosses a catwalk over marshland, in an area that may be wet, then goes in bush for 400 m and crosses an active rail track. It crosses marshland on another catwalk, goes through mature woodland, and crosses the rail track again to reach a residential area. It angles L on Greenview Dr, then after 200 m turns L (N) at a T junction onto Queen Mary Rd, which it follows to cross Bath Rd at lights. Note that as of Aug 18 2020, the area around the wetlands, with the extensive area of boardwalks, is not usable. The boardwalks are in very poor condition and not considered safe. Discussions have been initiated with CRCA and the City of Kingston for a long term fix. In the meantime the trail has been rerouted, with blue marker signage, around the problem areas (from King St W [old Trailhead] all the way to Greenview Dr).Use Rideau Trail: Urban Kingston Alternate Route for this segment. This trail then connects with Rideau Trail: Urban Kingston Segment.
