Path Type
Point to Point
Follow the Funeral Slot Canyon route from Texas Springs Campground for 3.5 miles to a fork in the main canyon (marked with a large white boulder). Taking the right fork here will lead you to the truly deep and narrow section that some guidebooks call The Slot. This spur continues straight ahead up the main canyon.
There are a few narrow and interesting sections along here but none quite as nice as those in the The Slot. About a 0.5 miles up-canyon from the fork to The Slot, you come to a glass-smooth 15-foot fall which can be by-passed up a steep gully on the right. Doing so requires climbing skills that go beyond hiking. The canyon continues on above the fall, but starts to widen, so you're not missing any narrows by making this the turn-around point for your hike.
