Description
Mount Falcon Parkas Castle Trail is accessible from two paved entry roads. Those looking for a longer, more strenuous hike should park in the east lot. A 2-mile trek with an elevation gain of nearly 2,000 feet provides views of Red Rocks and the Denver skyline amidst pines and Douglas firs. Parking in the west lot is great for families with small children, as it is a far shorter and less grueling hike. Both sides of the trail lead to the eerie stone skeleton of John Brisben Walkeras house. Walker, an entrepreneur and landowner in the area lived in the home in the early 1900s until it burned down in 1918. All that remains are the massive stone fireplaces and facades of the once opulent structure. This multi-use trail is very crowded on weekends. Serving as the main artery to a variety of different trailheads such as Turkey Trot Trail, Walkeras Dream Trail and Two-Dog Trail to name a few, the area is filled with mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders alike. So, if youare looking for some peace and quiet, you may want to reserve a weekday for your hike. Regardless of which route you choose, this versatile trail is ideal for a rigorous hike or a casual outing with the family, and it provides a glimpse into the rich history of Mount Falcon.
