Description
To access the String Lake Trailhead in Grand Teton National Park, it may be easier to park in the Jenny Lake Loop parking area. Construction may prevent this, and there is parking at Leigh Trailhead that does offer better restroom facilities; flushing toilets are always better than a portable toilet. As soon as you approach the String Lake Trailhead you are greeted with an amazing view. Not only do you get a great shot of the Tetons, but there is also a quaint bridge with a stream running underneath; cross this bridge to start your journey to Hidden Falls. Watch your step for the first 0.3 miles of the trail because there are large rocks, and it can be challenging to watch the trail as the beautiful Tetons sit just to your right. The String Lake Trailhead is very peaceful, and you can go for long stretches without seeing another person. As you make your way toward Hidden Falls you will be following along the Jenny Lake perimeter. The water is beautiful, picturesque, and calm. Be advised that since you are following the perimeter there is little tree coverage for the first mile and a half. If you are hoping to avoid the sun or heat, get an early start. When you approach 1.7 miles into the hike you have the option to take an additional 3.2 round-trip hike to Inspiration Point. As you continue to Hidden Falls you will see the boat ramp. Here you can choose to pay for a boat ride across the lake to view the falls. Once you are at the second boat ramp you will notice an influx of people. Expect a crowded path and viewing of Hidden Falls if you are later than mid-day. From the second boat ramp the route is just a half-mile up both a hill and a few stairs to reach Hidden Falls. This area is quite crowded with people, so it may be difficult to grab a good photo. Hiking this trail on a hot day its refreshing, and the mist from the falls to helps cool you down.
