Zuma Ridge Motorway

Zuma Ridge Motorway is a 11.8-mile out-and-back trail that follows a historic fire road located in Zuma and Trancas Canyons in the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area. Built in the 1920's, Zuma Ridge Motorway was part of the original fire road system that traversed the Santa Monica Mountains. The trail begins at the Zuma Ridge Trailhead, located at the end of Busch Drive, and ascends to Encinal Canyon Road following a ridge between Zuma Canyon and Trancas Canyon. On the way up, you will be treated to spectacular views of the ocean that become increasingly impressive as you ascend. Moderately rated, this trail is suitable for trail runners, hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, birdwatchers, and nature lovers.TRAILHEADThe Zuma Ridge Trailhead is located at the top of Busch Drive. Trailhead amenities include a small dirt parking area, information board, trash can, and recycling bin. There is no potable water at the trailhead. Additionally, parking is not available at the north end of this trail along Encinal Canyon Road.WATERThe national park service does not recommend drinking from streams in the area. Visitors should plan to bring sufficient food and water.
