There and Back
This is a great trail in Davis County that has somehow remained relatively unknown. It features beautiful scenery and a great 20-foot waterfall. You can get to the trailhead in any vehicle but the road is a little rough, narrow, and busy with off-road riders. Go slow and be careful around turns. The trail will go in and out of shade the entire way with pretty wild flowers. There are a couple easy creek crossings and the higher you climb the more spectacular the views get. Be sure to look behind you for great views of Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake! If you keep your eyes open you will find the remains of several old cars wrecked from the road high above. Also, keep an eye and ear out for rattlesnakes along the trail. You will soon hear the roaring of the waterfall. You can view the falls from the trail or go down the treacherous path to the base. There was a rope tied to aid hikers down the very loose and steep slope -- maybe 50 feet -- to the base. If you are not comfortable do not try! The views of the falls are worth the descent and the mist was a great way to relax after the climb. Above the falls there is a spot that would make an amazing campsite for a quick overnight backpack trip. Past the campsite the trail becomes slightly overgrown until you reach the sign marking your arrival at the sunset campground. From the campground you can set up a shuttle to pick you up or you can return down the trail you just hiked. I do not recommend hiking down the road since it is very busy with speeding cars.
