No Name Lake Hike

The hike to No Name Lake is not as popular as the more gentle hike to Upper Two Medicine Lake, but the views along the trail and the rugged beauty of this lake make it worth the extra climb. As with all the hikes west of Two Medicine Lake, the round trip boat shuttle shaves 5- to 7-miles of hiking off this trip. From the west end boat dock, the trail heads through lush fern grottos and dense forest to cross Two Medicine Creek (with a great view of Rising Wolf Mountain from the log bridge). Pumpelly Pillar looms above the left side of the trail and marvelous views of the surrounding mountains make this hike very rewarding in both directions as it climbs up the drainage to the lake. The trail to No Name Lake follows the Dawson Pass Trail before veering off for the last half mile or so. Unlike Upper Two Medicine Lake, this trail follows the shore of the lake to the far end where the primitive campground can be found to make this a great backpacking adventure as well.
