There and Back
This hike begins off of Highway 82 just west of Independence Pass. The trailhead is located at the bend in the road with plenty of parking on both sides. It is marked accordingly, with a map at the entrance, along with wilderness rules and regulations. The trail is uphill all the way to Independence Lake, but the grade should be manageable more most folks. It is very well loved, and it shows with many muddy spots as you make your way to the lake. You'll travel over many small streams, all with plenty of rocks to keep your feet dry. The entire hike is above treeline, with only small brush as company, so expect complete sun exposure the duration of the time. Sunscreen, hats, and long sleeves are highly recommended. This trail is easy to follow and you'll likely not be alone, as this is a fairly popular hike, especially during the summer. Overall this hike is absolutely worth the effort and will not disappoint.

Some Issues
Still some deep snow in spots that caused us to lose the trail above Independence Lake. Some ice and snow on the descent to lost man. Lots of mud, but all manageable.
