Rim Trail

The start shown here is at the intersection of Rim Dr. & Fort Lewis Dr. though the trail can easily be accessed from several locations. The trail rolls around the campus perimeter with excellent views of the town of Durango and surrounding mountains. Formerly known as "Squawker." There are many trails that branch off this loop, so route finding can be a bit tricky, but following the most well-established trail and staying on the mesa, should generally keep you on the right track. There is little elevation gain, with the only a small descent before crossing East 8th Ave. and then climbing back up the rim after the road crossing. There are several options for extended hikes that branch from this loop and it also provides easy access to the Horse Gulch Trail system.
