Description
AZT Passage 27: Blue Ridge is a 15.4-mile point-to-point section of the roughly 800-mile Arizona National Scenic Trail. This moderately rated section runs from the Mogollon Rim to Highway 87 and is located east of Prescott, AZ. This passage is accessible for hikers, trail runners, long-distance backpackers, equestrians and mountain bikers. Passage 27 traverses north on top of the Mogollon Rim. The trail through this section follows a mix of single and doubletrack across meadows, forests, and canyons. It features aromatic pine trees, flowing water, and the historic General Springs Cabin. The trail crosses pristine natural beauty such as the quiet sanctuary of General Springs Canyon. It passes through thick stands of pine and fir trees and drops into East Clear Creek. Although roads bisect much of the passage, none are heavily traveled, and their presence does not spoil this quiet corner of the Mogollon Rim. This passage is mostly flat, with two notable exceptions. The first is the 500-foot-deep gorge carved by East Clear Creek, which flows into Blue Ridge Reservoir. The second is the steep drop from Blue Ridge to AZ 87. Neither is particularly difficult, and this passage as a whole is relatively easy. DIRECTIONSFollow Arizona National Scenic Trail Signs/Trail Markers. From General Springs Cabin the trail follows General Springs Canyon until it reaches a trail junction. The trail crosses FR 123 and heads north to FR 123A. FR 123A to East Clear Creek. East Clear Creek to FR 751.FR 751 to Blue Ridge Campground. Blue Ridge Campground to Highway 87 at the junction with FR 138.WATERCheck the Arizona Trail Water Report for current information at: https://aztrail.org/explore/water-sources/.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION INFORMATIONArizona National Scenic Trail Association: www.aztrail.orgCoconino National Forest, Mogollon Rim Ranger District, http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/, 1-(928) 477-2255.BLM Information Center (602) 417-9300.
