Description
Las Trampas Regional Wilderness staging area in Bollinger Canyon Road opens only at 8 AM. But this trail starts at the east side of the park at the end of Camille Avenue in Danville. From the street parking, the Las Trampas Regional Trail starts towards the left. There are abundant eucalyptus trees at the start of the trail and the smell of eucalyptus permeates the air. After about 0.4 miles, you'll reach the first and only gate on this hike. Go through the gate and continue climbing up. Here the trees are primarily oak. After 0.2 miles, you'll reach the intersection with the Madrone Trail. Take a right and keep going up. There is little shade beyond this point until we reach the Corduroy Hills Trail at around one mile from start of the hike. Just keep following the road uphill, it's wide and steep and exposed. But the good thing is that the views really open up and Mt. Diablo looks better the higher we go up.After 0.4 miles, you reach a hill from where a narrow path starts going up. This path leads into a shaded forest area that goes all the way to Eagle Peak. From here you'll have the last and the best view of Mt. Diablo from here. You can head east down a small spur path to explore the summit a bit. Return the same way.
