Description
This is a nice hike if the weather is poor Los Glaciers National Park. Starting from the parking area at the end of a gravel access road off Route 23 for Puerto Bahia Tunel, walk a little further down the road to a locked gate. The gate should be loose enough to step over a chain. Once on the other side of the gate, turn immediately right and follow a trail along the fence. The trail follows the fence for a short distance then turns away gradually into several cow pastures. This is the most difficult route finding section because the trail fades away through the pastures. It is helpful if you download the tracks here. The route gradually ascends through the pasture. Once higher up, there is beautiful views of Lago Viedma, especially on a sunny day the color of the lake is amazing. Be should to turn around to see in case the weather turns bad on the hike back.once out of the meadows, the trail is very easy to follow. Watch for Guanacos that are abundant in the area. I came up on two mating along the fence and another that rushed up and broke the two up. Guanacos like to spit when agitated so keep your distance. Also, do not rely on other tracking services that provide a route. There is a new fence up and older tracks are not accurate. This trail no longer goes directly to El Chalten. It ends at a view point high above Las Vueltas River.
