Adobe Creek Trail

The Adobe Creek Trail provides the opportunity to make a nice loop of the Monte Bello Road Trail so you don't have to hike out and back. To access the trail, either park along Page Mill Road and hike up to the trail, being mindful that you are near private property, so please stay on the trail. If you choose to hike out Monte Bello Road Trail, then this trail begins at the end of the trail before the road breaks down to the left and approaches Page Mill Road. The trail leaves the asphalt road and becomes a double wide dirt track that descends steeply toward Page Mill Road, where you can hear and see the cars below you. The trail passes an electrical tower before turning back to the right and leveling off. Passing through a gate, the trail hugs the hillside and begins a descent that will continue until you reach four tenths of a mile. Here, the road crosses Adobe Creek, which is probably dry unless there has been rain recently, and then the trail begins a steep climb up the hillside. It wraps around the hill and then follows underneath the power line until you reach eight tenths of a mile. Here, the trail levels off for a short while before climbing gradually through an open field. As you approach the one mile mark, the view opens up on the left hand side of the trail and a sweeping view of the South Bay Area comes into view. The trail moves in and out of the woods, providing shade as you go. The trail ends at the junction with the gravel Monte Bello Road Trail and from here you have some choices. If you parked on Page Mill Road, you can turn to the right and work your way back to your car. If you turn to the left and follow the road that direction, you can explore more of the Monte Bello Open Space Preserve by following the road trail deep into the heart of the preserve.
