The Murphy Ranch in the Rustin Canyon has an unusual history. At the bottom of the narrow, steep canyon are three unique structures built in the 1930s within a 50-acre compound, known as Murphy Ranch. It was home to a clan of Nazi sympathizer from 1933-1945 when they were arrested.
In the 1950s and 1960s, the enclave became an artists colony. The partially burned buildings scarred with graffiti still remain.
From 405 freeway, exit on Sunset Blvd and head west for about 5 miles. Turn right onto Capri Drive and continue to the end of the road, where you'll park. Head down to Casale Road to the end. The trailhead will be on your right.
