Deer Creek Trail

Deer Creek is a short and incredibly scenic hike that is accessed via the Colorado River. Alternatively, it can also be accessed from the North Rim via a long hike in from the Bill Hall or Thunder River Trailhead.If starting from the river, as you will if rafting through, the first attraction is Deer Creek Falls. This 180 foot waterfall is one of the most spectacular in the Grand Canyon. Be sure to enjoy the views from below.You'll then climb up the trail as it ascends steadily. You'll top out and have a great view back down to the Colorado before entering the narrows. The narrows are carved from the Tapeats Formation and are quite enchanting. The trail stays midway up on a ledge that skirts above the narrows, with a few spots that may give anyone with a fear of heights some pause.After the narrows you'll come to a promenade known as The Patio. This is the end of the most spectacular section of trail, but you should continue upstream a ways further. You'll hike past the small designated camping area, and then eventually the trail crosses the creek. This is a good turnaround point.Enjoy the creek and lovely shade trees, and perhaps even go for a quick swim, then return the way you came back to the Colorado River.
