Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail

A true crowd-pleaser, this section of the Towpath Trail is sure to make just about everyone happy. It's a great place to start an adventure, whether you're planning to travel the entire length of the park system, or just pass part of the day. It's flat and scenic, which means there's plenty here for outdoor enthusiasts of every age, type, and skill level. And with restrooms and stops along the way for picnicking and sightseeing, you're always close to civilization throughout the trip. The path is a great way to get outside, and to dig a little deeper into Ohio history. The towpath that is traveled by human traffic today used to be traveled mostly by mules. Canal boats moving from the Great Lakes to the Ohio river once traveled on the same route, and mules were used to help pull them. The budding history buff in everyone will appreciate following this same route.
