Description
The extension of this trail is relatively new and is supposed to go even further in the future. From the parking lot in Saxapahaw, head down hill past the main building with the beer and the ballroom. Find the stairs that head to the river. From there, you simply hike along the river down stream. The first section of forest you pass through is rich with bird life. Continue along the trail over some sturdy repurposed bridges. The forest first opens up for the power line easement. After re-entering the forest, you next come upon some lovely open farmland. In the distance you can see an organic chicken farm with some attentive Great Pyrenees dogs guarding the flock. From here, you enter a mixed beech and oak forest and cross some newer wood bridges. The trail abruptly ends with trail markers promising more trail to come.
