Baboon Lakes Trail (31E01A)

Follow the Sabrina Basin Trail (31E01) about half way down the west side of Blue Lake to a trail junction. At that point, the Sabrina Basin Trail (31E01) turns west and heads to the many beautiful lakes to the southwest. The Baboon Lakes Trail (31E01A) continues almost directly south near the lake and then makes up a moderate climb to the first Baboon Lake. This is a beautiful lake with good campsites. If you cross the creek and climb up the rock south of the lake, there is a great view of the Blue Lake basin and Piute Crags. From there, it is possible to continue off-trail around the north side of Baboon Lakes and up the canyon to Sunset Lake, but this is much more difficult than the trail to Baboon Lake. About halfway between Blue Lake and Baboon Lakes, there is a short trail leading to Donkey Lake. The trail is very pleasant, but the lake itself is the least scenic in the middle fork area.
