There and Back
The Blowhard Mountain Trail is a 13.1-mile out-and-back trail located near Cedar Breaks National Monument. If you are on a long road trip and need a break from the scenic byway, the Blowhard Trail is a great way to stretch your legs and get your heart rate up. This moderately rated trail begins with a 6.5-mile climb, gaining over 3,000 feet of elevation, followed by a 6.5-mile descent. The trail consists mostly of singletrack with a few doubletrack sections and areas where it crosses dirt roads. The rocky trail features shaded pine forests, open meadows, and scenic views of Cedar Breaks National Monument. The trail is suitable for running, hiking, and mountain biking. TRAILHEADBlowhard Trail can be accessed from Moots Hollow Trailhead The trail is located off of Scenic Byway 14. Parking is available off the road. This route can also be completed in the opposite direction, starting from State Route 14 (U-14). ALTERNATESThe trail can be shortened by arranging a shuttle or getting dropped off by a friend at either end. It is important to remember that starting from State Route 143 (U-143) is all downhill, and starting from State Route 14 (U-14) is all uphill.
