Description
The Still Creek Trail, located just off Highway 26 between the towns of Rhododendron and Government Camp, provides a pleasant walk through the forest and a glimpse of two very beautiful mountain streams - Camp Creek and Still Creek. The trailhead is located within Camp Creek Campground. Drive to the far western section of the campground and you'll find the trailhead as well as enough parking for a few cars. The trail begins by crossing a footbridge over Camp Creek. You'll walk beside this lovely creek for a short distance before veering off to the right and beginning a short, easy climb. The trail crosses a forest road and levels out into what is an enjoyable stroll through the forest. In fact the remainder of the trail can be summarized as just that - an enjoyable walk through some beautiful dense forest. The remnants of a recent wind storm can be seen as fallen Douglas Firs have been cleared from the trail. You'll soon come across a short boardwalk that leads through a small cedar grove and across a spring/stream. The terrain eventually steepens a bit, but the trail still doesn't gain much elevation. As you traverse around this steeper terrain you will begin to hear Still Creek in the distance. The trail then descends, crosses FR 2612 and ends at Still Creek.Take some time to enjoy this beautiful creek that originates from the Palmer Glacier, high up on Mount Hood. Once satisfied, return the way you came.
