Loop
The trail to Solitude Lake starts at the Silver Lake Visitor Center at the base of Brighton Ski Resort. You'll follow the boardwalk off to the right to gain the quickest access to the trail, though the loop to the left is beautiful and not all that much longer. The trail for Lake Solitude is clearly marked and slowly climbs its way up the ski slope through a beautiful aspen forests. Even though others before you have carved various words or symbols into the aspen's bark, please refrain from doing so. This is an easy hike that will pass under the chairlift and bring you to the lake in about 1.5 miles. The lake makes for a great lunch spot and is ideal for wildlife viewing. If you take a short stroll around the lake on the left, you'll come across a small cave on the left side of the trail. The trail is accessible May through October. Visit in July or August for a brilliant display of wildflowers. You can either come back the way you came or follow the trail around the lake to Twin Lakes Pass, down to Twin Lakes, and back to Silver Lake from there.
