Description
Providing the most direct access to Andrew Molera State Beach, the Beach Trail cuts across the northern portion of Creamery Meadow in Andrew Molera State Park. Running parallel to the nearby Big Sur River, the trail explores the riparian woodland along a mile-long path that connects the main parking area and the beach. From the parking area, find the trailhead located a hundred feet to the north of the wooded picnic area. After only a few short steps down the trail youall encounter the Big Sur River. Depending on the time of year and height of the river, crossing may require some wading if the footbridge is pulled for the winter steelhead run. Beyond the river, stay right and head west through the grassy meadow and pass through riparian stands of sycamore, willow, alders and cottonwoods. Creamery Meadow is thick with wildlife. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for deer, bobcat, coyote, and a plethora of birds. Youall know youare near the beach as you feel the air cool and the dirt trail gives way to sand. Just before the trail opens to beach and ocean you will pass the Bluff Trail on your left; this can be taken to form a pleasant loop with the Creamery Meadow Trail on your return. As with all trails within Andrew Molera State Park, be sure to keep an eye out for poison oak.
