To protect wintering wildlife, the BLM Tres Rios Field Office annually closes trails to all access in the Durango area from Dec. 1 through April 30 (possible to open April 15 if conditions warrant). This applies to the upper trails at Twin Buttes. For the latest information please call the BLM Tres Rios Field Office at (970) 882-1120.

This is an old railroad bed that provides an easy alternative to the final climb on the Upper Twin Buttes Trail. From the junction of Upper Ed & Flo and Upper Twin Buttes Trail, turn left and head down the old railroad bed.
