Description
This trail starts about a mile from the trailhead, off to the right from the dirt road. The first part of the trail is a doubletrack ascent to the edge of Spring Creek Canyon. As you approach the canyon, turn right and parallel it for about 1-1/2 mile. If you find mud or puddles on this upper part of the hike, choose a different trail as the lower canyon will be very muddy. Cross over a narrow cattleguard through a fence. A 160-degree turn left off of this doubletrack takes you steeply down into the canyon on a loose and wide path that shows a number of banked turns enjoyed by mountain bikers. After you reach the canyon bottom, turn right and cross the gate to the Lower Spring Canyon. Continue on this beautiful, downward stretch of singletrack with a few short, steep climbs to add variation to the descent. Watch out for cactus. Be aware of a steep, loose section at the north end that requires careful footing. Once you get back to the canyon rim, it is a short jaunt back to the trailhead.
