Description
As of February 2025, the southern terminus (of the Pinhoti) has been changed to the summit of Flagg Mountain. From the tower, the trail descends eastward. The trail passes by the CCC cabins, along a dirt road. The trail continues traveling eastward, then turns northward. The trail stays west of Weogufka Creek, to Weogufka Creek Shelter. It travels along the top of a ridge, high above Weogufka Creek, to County Road 56. Here, the trail turns right (onto CR 56) and follows this for a ways. The trail turns right (off CR 56) at the sign for Bones Valley. The trail travels for approximately 0.8 miles, before reaching Bones Bend Campsite. It is approximately 0.6 miles to Newsite Campsite. There are a few other campsites sprinkled through this section, you may have to refer to the Pinhoti Trail Alliance website, though. The trail travels over Terrapin Hill, then descends through the hills to County Road 56. Section 1 (of the Pinhoti Trail) ends here.
