Description
This 18-foot wide bridge serves both pedestrian and wheeled traffic across the Arkansas River along the route of the MKT railroad. In 1917, the Missouri-Katy-Texas railroad built a steel truss bridge at roughly 23rd St. The bridge was converted to pedestrian service in 1975 as part of a rails-to-trails project. In 2021 the rail bridge was demolished in conjunction with a rebuild of Zink Lake and construction of a new 1440-foot long pedestrian bridge. The new bridge was placed in service in 2024. Background on the design of the bridge is at https://landezine.com/williams-crossing-by-mvva/.
