There and Back
The Glacier Slough Trail is a short but rewarding out-and-back route in Montana’s Swan Valley, offering 3 miles round-trip of mellow terrain and rich wetland scenery. Starting from the Glacier Sloughs Trailhead off Lindbergh Lake Road, the trail winds through lodgepole pine forest, open meadows, and sloughs where moose, elk, and waterfowl are frequent visitors. With just 150 feet of elevation gain, it’s an accessible hike that still delivers the sense of backcountry quiet that defines the Swan Range.
Designated as Trail #481, this route ends at Glacier Creek, a calm spot to pause and listen to the water or scan for wildlife. It’s open to hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians, and is especially well-suited for a half-day outing or a scenic add-on to a basecamp at nearby Lindbergh Lake. Expect soft trail tread, a few muddy patches, and plenty of opportunities to slow down and take in the wild surroundings.
