Description
Located within Georgia's Blackrock Mountain State Park, the Tennessee Rock Trail provides a great hike through lush, Blue Ridge forests as well as sweeping vistas of the Appalachians. The trailhead is well marked within the state park, and the trail itself is well blazed. It starts out winding through lush forest. Given the high annual rainfall in this area, in addition to packing a rain jacket, expect to see many different species of fungi as well as moisture loving plants. Also be aware of black bears; Blackrock Mountain has a healthy population of them. After completing just over half the trail, it turns back to the northeast, and you begin to ascend to the top of Blackrock Mountain. At 3635 ft, the view is excellent and although I don't know for certain, I imagine you can see at least three, probably four different states. After the summit, the trail descends fairly quickly back to the trailhead. At just over 3 miles, the trail is not so strenuous as to preclude beginners (my 4.5 year old daughter completed it without being carried), but also provides a nice hike for the more experienced.
