Loop
Start at the large parking lot signed for Bagley Lakes and the Wild Goose trails, just off WA 542 Highway. It's easy to reach and the hike is easy to complete. Take a right turn just past the trailhead, and head down to Lower Bagley Lake. At the lake go left, and hike along the east side of the lake. To complete the loop, at Upper Bagley Lake cross the creek and turn right onto the Chain Lakes trail that runs along the opposite side of Lower Bagley Lake. At the end of the lake take a left after the dam and return to the parking lot. Along the way, you can expect to see awesome views of Shuksan, Mt. Baker, Table Mountain, Mt. Herman, a variety of ferns, and copious amounts of heather. If you're lucky and there in the right season, you can often find troves of unpicked huckleberries. At Just 2 miles long, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to complete the hike, depending on how long you want to explore in the woods, admire the views, and check out the geology along the trail. If you find that you enjoy this trail, you should definitely try more hikes in the area. One word of warning: Even in the summer, remember that weather changes rapidly in the mountains, and help can be far away. You should always be prepared for variable conditions, have what you need to stay energetic and hydrated, and carry some form of first aid.
