Description
Clifty Falls State Park is a hidden gem on the border between Indiana and Kentucky, and it is best visited in late spring and early summer while the falls and creek still have a fair amount of water. The state park has all of the ammenities for a long stay, including a lodge, park swimming pool, and full service campground, but the highlight of the park are the 15 miles of trails traversing a ravine containing Big Clifty Creek and Clifty Falls. While the trails can be completed in one day by the avid hiker, for most it would be best to spread them over two days due to the steep grades and elevation change. Trail maps are given at the park entrance, and the ideal route begins on trails 1 and 2, following Big Clifty Creek up to the falls. After viewing the falls, ascend the ravine on the east side following trails 3, 4, and 5. These trails provide excellent views of the rock formations, a cave, and beautiful views of the ravine.
