Undercliff Trail

The Undercliff Trail starts near the Washburn Trail. Turn right and ascend to the quarry. The Undercliff Trail ascends the side of Taurus Mountain and is steep at times. There is a tricky section at the only viewpoint on the Undercliff Trail. There are several social paths that lead away from the trail. Many people get confused here. After the trail climbs up to this viewpoint, it makes an abrupt turn back and descends again before climbing back up the side of the mountain. It is not well-marked here so take your time to find the right way. The northwestern section of the Undercliff Trail, once you cross over the Washburn Trail, is seldom visited as most people either hike the Washburn Trail or Breakneck Ridge Trail. This section connects the Washburn Trail and the Brook Trail. The trail has some of the best viewpoints of West Point and Storm King Mountain across the Hudson River. This trail sees little traffic and is very enjoyable. This trail is often done as part of a loop starting from the Cornish Trail.
