Pearsoney Falls Nature Trail

The Pearsoney Falls Nature Trail is a short hiking trail the leads past a variety of waterfalls within the Prospect State Scenic Viewpoint over the course of the 1.5 mile round trip.Beginning at a small parking area opposite the market and gas station in the town of Prospect, a trail paved with wood chips descends into the forest, passing beneath a canopy of douglas for and ponderosa pine. About 1/3 mile in is Pearsoney Falls, a 25' cascade falling down a wall of mossy stone into a narrow canyon. It is possible to walk down to the water, and during the summer, this narrow canyon is significantly cooler than the surrounding area.Metal signs display the names of trees that the trail passes, as it continues to descend, following the path of Mill Creek before reaching a plateau with views of the dramatic Mill Creek Falls. Several small footpaths descend a short series of switchbacks to the river's edge. Depending on the path you take you may end up with a view of the Barr Creek Falls or at a spot of small pools lined with boulders smoothed out by years of erosion.The trail itself is simple to follow, with the exception of the final sharp descent to the river. It lies mostly in the shade.A vault toilet and shaded picnic table are located in the parking area. The town's lone market across the street has groceries. The parking area gate is closed from dusk until sunrise.
