Loop
This lollipop loop trail combines the Cassidy and Rich trails into a fairly easy 4-mile jaunt. While not as scenic as some other trails in the area, this loop still offers a few views and is a great option to escape the crowds of Bryce Canyon as well a suitable trail for mountain bikers.Begin at the trailhead just off Scenic Byway 12. The Cassidy Trail follows a dry wash slightly uphill for the entirety of its length, crossing it multiple times. Large pines provide a slight bit of shade here and there. Just shy of the one mile mark you'll come to the first junction with the Rich Trail. Continue past here (this is where you'll come out later on).As you walk along the Cassidy Trail toward the next junction of the Rich Trail, know that you're following in the footsteps of the notorious outlaw Butch Cassidy. He used this trail to evade the law, and it later became part of what is known as the Outlaw Trail. In addition this area was used for the filming of the 1969 movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.When you reach the second Rich Trail junction take a left and follow the trail out of the wash and along the small ridge to a bit of a viewpoint. In fact this stretch of the Rich Trail offers the best views along the loop. After another junction and reaching a highpoint, there is an optional short spur (the Ledge Trail) that leads to an overlook with views of the Red Canyon area. The Rich Trail then descends back down to the Cassidy Trail where you'll follow the familiar track back to the trailhead.
