Description
Nestled in Columbia Park in Kennewick, the Dr. Rod Coler Audubon Nature Trail (previously named the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Nature Trail ) is easy to access. The trails may be short, but one could spend quite a few hours watching birds and other wildlife. Arguably, Red Wing Pond is the site of most of the action. Here you can watch waterfowl swim about as birds and dragonflies rush through the reeds. The sound of the bullfrogs, birdsong, and dragonfly buzzing is almost enough to drown out the traffic noise from nearby Highway 240. The Dr. Rod Coler Audubon Nature Trail is also home to some interesting plant life, including Russian olives, willows, and more. An identification guide of the most common species can be found at the main entrance.
