There and Back
The Saddle Trail of Mount Jumbo begins at the top of the Lincoln Hills neighborhood. There is a large dirt parking area with a trashcan, but no toilets. The trail begins with little shade, but there is a nice view of Lolo peak in the distance. There are signs pointing you to the summit of Mount Jumbo along the way. The Tivoli Trail intersects with the saddle trail multiple times throughout the hike. The trail starts getting steeper once you reach the trees adorning Mount Jumbo. The trail itself is well maintained and very wide. There are not a lot of rocks or exposed roots, so you can enjoy your surroundings without fear of tripping on something. The views from the top are magnificent. From the summit you can view the peaks of the Rattlesnake, Bitterroot, Saphire, and Garnet mountains. You will also see the Missoula Valley in its entirety. Mount Jumbo is closed in the winter due to a wintering elk herd, so be sure to check if it is closed before you go.
