Lowder Mountain via Upper Trailhead

From the Upper Trailhead, itas just over 2 miles to the summit of Lowder Mountain in the Three Sisters Wilderness. This flat-topped mountain may seem unimpressive at first, but looking toward the horizon you can spot several peaks of the Cascade Range in the distance including the Three Sisters, Mount Washington, Mount Jefferson, Diamond Peak, and even Mount Hood. Wildflowers are a highlight of the hiking in this area. Blooms start in late spring and continue into summer. Also, keep an eye out for wildlife in the area, both along the trail and the road leading up to the trailhead. The trail is a series of switchbacks through the forest with the occasional opening into a wildflower-filled meadow. Parts of the trail are overgrown because of the lack of use, but they are still easy enough to follow. For a longer hike, continue on Lowder Mountain Trail to the Lower Trailhead, about 5 miles. The trail also connects with the Walker Creek Trail near the summit, but there are no trail markers or signs. It is overgrown due to its lack of use and is difficult to follow. The trailhead has a small parking area, self-issued permits, and information about the area.
