Redwood Nature Trail

This lovely rugged hike is a nice loop by itself with parking at the trailhead, but it can also be accessed via the River View Trail from nearby Alfred A. Loeb State Park. This grove of coastal redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) is one of only a few in Oregon and is near the very northern end of the treeas natural range. But this trail is much more special than just its rarity. The winding and sometimes steep route offers the special smell and aura of the redwood forest, some moderately large trees and many enchanting cascading brooks. From the trailhead, where there is a picnic table and toilets, the trail climbs briefly to the loop junction. Either direction is nice, but some of the steepest parts of the trail are to the left. It is about 160 feet of elevation from the trailhead to the highest point, but there is a lot more up and down to this trail than a single climb. Still, it is not difficult, and the beauty of the forest is engaging. This is definitely a trail that tempts one to stop frequently and quietly contemplate the beauty.
