There and Back
Plum Canyon is a 19.1-mile out-and-back hike located southwest of Borrego Springs, California. This trail follows a historic dirt road that was turned into a trail through Plum Canyon. This sandy trail offers scenic mountain views amidst a classic Colorado Desert landscape. The route through the canyon follows a moderately rated section of the California Hiking and Riding Trail, and it is open to runners, hikers, backpackers, and horseback riders. A few sections of the trail have rocky terrain, however the majority is firm sand with little elevation gain and relatively easy hiking. Wildflowers and shrubs can be found throughout the canyon. The region is also home to desert agave, desert lavender, creosote bush, chuparosa, brittlebush, ocotillo, and a variety of cacti.CAMPINGPrimitive and backcountry camping is allowed throughout Anza Borrego Desert State Park.
