Description
The Easton Ridge Trail is slightly difficult to find and is shared with Kachess Ridge Trail and the Domerie Divide trail. From the trailhead you will see the sign for Kachess Ridge Trail, but no direction to the Easton Ridge Trail. Look for a little pathway to the right of the Kachess Ridge Trail sign; this small, steep trail leads down to Silver Creek. Follow the trail as it continues along the creek to a bridge and waterfall. This is where the Easton Ridge Trail officially begins. The trail wastes no time beginning its ascent, gaining 1,100 feet in roughly 0.8 miles. This hike has you working for the wonderful views of Lake Easton, Mount Rainer, and Kachess Lake along the ridge. Also, deepening on the time and season, the path is filled with various wildflowers, birds, and wildlife. In the ensuing 2 miles you will have reached 4,470 feet. On the way there are some downed trees that require some agility to negotiate; one perk of these small obstacles is that the trail remains best suited to hikers. Once you reach the ridge, it is easy to lose track of the trail as you explore the views. The ridge is exposed, so shade can be a precious find on a hot day. Note that wayfinding is a little tricky on the way down, and it is easy to lose the trail or to end up on an alternate trail. Watch for landmarks, and use a map or a GPS device.
