Point to Point
This hike connects two trails to reach a viewpoint with great views of Mount Stuart and Mount Rainier (Taquoma). On a clear day, you may be able to see Mount Adams (Pahto) in the distance.Iron Bear Trail #1351 starts in forest, then proceeds through low shrubs as you approach the ridge line. You'll pass several small streams as you switchback up 600 feet of elevation. Over this stretch, you'll hike over both continental sedimentary sandstones of the Swauk formation along with basalts from the Teanaway formation. In about 1.8 miles, you'll reach the four-way junction connecting the Iron Bear Trail #1351 with the Teanaway Ridge Trail #1364 at Iron Bear Pass (elevation 4500 feet).Take the right trail heading north onto the Teanaway Ridge Trail #1364. The junction can be a good place to stop for a quick snack before making your way up the next stretch of the trail. After 1.5 miles you'll reach your turnaround point at Iron Bear Peak. There are a lot of rocks to sit upon to enjoy lunch and the scenery. If wanting to backpack or have a long day hike, you can continue on from there to complete the Iron Bear to Miller Loop, which connects to the four-way junction you crossed earlier.
